First Grade Science Log book?

I don't remember ever having to keep a logbook for science in school, and I am homeschooling my kids, and the curriculum I am using has some really neat ideas for science experiments, and says to keep a science log book. This is for a first grader who is just learning to read and write. Any ideas how to keep it simple, the layout, ect? Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.
