Observation of magnetic strips on ocean floor disproving plate tectonics?

i have this question for science homework that i have over the summer and need one observation regarding the magnetic stripes on the ocean floor that would disprove the theory of plate tectonics. i have no idea what this means though so is someone could explain and answer the question that would be great.
